Overview of Express Entry

  1. Programs Managed by Express Entry:
    • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled workers with foreign work experience.
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For skilled workers qualified in a skilled trade.
    • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For skilled workers with Canadian work experience.
    • Certain Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams: Some provinces and territories use Express Entry to manage part of their PNP.

Steps to Apply Through Express Entry

  1. Check Eligibility:
    • Each program has its own requirements related to work experience, education, language proficiency, and other criteria. You can use the Come to Canada tool to see if you’re eligible.

  2. Create an Express Entry Profile:
    • Create an online profile where you provide information about your skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other personal details.

  3. Get Your Documents Ready:
    • Language Test Results: IELTS or CELPIP for English, TEF or TCF for French.
    • Educational Credential Assessment (ECA): For foreign education.
    • Job Offer (if applicable): From a Canadian employer.
    • Provincial Nomination (if applicable): If you have one.

  4. Submit Your Profile:
    • Once your profile is submitted, you are entered into the Express Entry pool and ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

  1. CRS Score:
    • Points are awarded based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language ability, job offer, provincial nomination, and more. The maximum score is 1,200 points.

  2. Core Factors:
    • Age: Up to 110 points.
    • Education: Up to 150 points.
    • Language Skills: Up to 160 points.
    • Canadian Work Experience: Up to 80 points.

  3. Additional Factors:
    • Job Offer: 50 or 200 points depending on the position.
    • Provincial Nomination: 600 points.
    • Sibling in Canada: 15 points.
    • French Language Skills: Up to 50 points.

Invitations to Apply (ITA)

  1. Regular Draws:
    • The government conducts regular draws from the Express Entry pool, inviting the highest-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residency.

  2. ITA:
    • If you receive an ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency.

Application Process After Receiving ITA

  1. Gather and Submit Documents:
    • You will need to submit police certificates, medical exams, proof of funds, and other documents.

  2. Processing Time:
    • The goal is to process applications within six months.
